The Church of Buck / Crew workboard

BIG IDEAS.
NEXT JOBS.

A place to get oriented before the next wrench gets turned. Bring a useful tool, pick up a job, and help move Buck toward the dirt.

The current build chapter

MEASUREMENTS IN.
DESIGN NEXT.

The September 29 recap reports bed measurements taken, with some heights needing floor removal. October’s focus is a floor plan, frame drawings, material checks and a usable cut list.

Measurements are recorded; the floor and frame tasks remain open, with design still ahead. Read the measurement update ↗

Buck Test 1 / Follow-up

FIRST DIRT. REAL NOTES.

Browns Camp is in the books. Turn the first test’s findings into the next workday.

Browns Camp / October 16–17

BETTER THAN
EXPECTED.
STILL A BUCK.

Marshall reports Buck did great, and departure angles were surprisingly less limiting than expected.

The upper structure was loose and rattling. Lots of straps worked as a temporary band-aid for the outing; connection and welding work remains.

On the first night, Buck stopped idling and kept dying. A little “Italian tune-up” helped for the night; it did not recur the next day. The issue still needs investigation.

YOUR POST-TEST CHECKLIST

Your checklist on this device. Checking a box does not update the crew’s records or certify Buck’s readiness.

THE OPEN JOBS.

Start with the recorded lead, then agree on the next step. Roles below come from the project notebook; they are not new assignments.

01 / Mechanical

Light mounting, hazards and gauges

The October 5 list reports lights working, with brake-light mounting and hazard sourcing still open. October 3 cluster/gauge concerns have no recorded closeout.

Idle issue and post-test checks

BT1 brought intermittent idle/stalling on the first night, absent the next day. Investigate the cause. Earlier driveline work remains deferred unless symptoms return; this outing does not close every prior concern.

Test, then the next phase

BT1 is complete. The earlier plan puts body-lift and traction work before a second test, then alignment. Fit, design and readiness still need confirmation.

02 / Design

Measurements → floor plan

Bed measurements and mounting points are marked done. Develop the floor around the actual truck, remaining height checks and available lumber. Floor before frame.

Loose upper structure, connections and welding

BT1 exposed loose connections and rattling in the upper structure. Straps were temporary. Review the connections and welding work alongside the material, cab-to-frame movement and frame/exhaust layout.

Seats, belts, and upper-deck ideas

Work through seating and restraint requirements before turning concepts into a build. The proposed exoskeleton is not a certified roll cage.

03 / Logistics

Insurance and paperwork

Confirm coverage activation and the trip permit. October 12 says the arrangements are prepared, with the final action still pending. Title/registration follow-up remains separate.

Plan the next test

Compare the candidate areas and confirm a manageable route, crew, and recovery support.

Tools and material check

Confirm who can bring the needed tools before buying. Share measurements and offers with the design crew.

Sourcing role: Marshall#marketplace ↗

BT1 findings added October 19; other task records last reconciled October 13, 2026. Some tasks may have moved since then. A role identifies the person listed in the project records; it does not claim they have accepted or completed every job in that category.

Good help starts with useful details

BRING THE DETAILS.

Candidate materials and offers need a current check before they become a cut list or shopping trip.

Floor / Working direction

PLYWOOD & SUPPORTS.

The meeting plan explores a plywood floor over a timber framework. Inspect the existing deck and any candidate sheets before settling the layout.

  • Sheet count, dimensions, and condition
  • Support locations and mounting points
  • Photos with a scale and clear labels

REAL STEEL. REAL NUMBERS.

Salvaged rack steel is an option, with material samples and dimensions requested in the frame discussion. Its suitability is still to be established.

  • Section shape and measured thickness
  • Usable lengths, quantity, and condition
  • Any original markings or material information

Sound / Parts offered

OFFERED IS STEP ONE.

Speakers are reported in hand on October 12. The earlier amplifier offer still needs checking. Confirm the gear before designing around it.

  • Model, condition, and actual ratings
  • Dimensions and connections
  • Power needs and a mounting plan

NEW IN THE MATERIAL PILE.

On October 13, Marshall reported long screws and 4-inch Torx screws in hand, with membrane plates also offered. Raised-floor use is an idea, not an approved connection. Confirm type, condition and suitability with the design crew.

THE MEASUREMENT BRIEF.

Share the recorded bed and mounting-point measurements with units and labeled photos. Check remaining heights as the old floor comes off and document the cab-to-frame relationship. Keep measured dimensions separate from estimates. Flag the unresolved frame/exhaust layout for the design discussion.

These are information requests, not specifications or a verified inventory. Confirm current needs with the crew before bringing tools or buying parts.
